so i moved my regular seat at work to the 'dark row'. supposedly a more 'policed' area. last week after being in that area for half my shift and then it happened....again. wound up coming home due to a co-worker. her attitude blew me away....she said "oh, is my perfume too strong??"
Hello, you aren't even supposed to wearing that shit in here.
I really wish that management would TRY to do Something more to prevent this sort of thing from happening. Or at the very least, compensate those who have to leave work, (by still getting paid for the time missed).
having NO sick time left, and receiving a 'manager's ER' means that the time i miss doesn't count against me. But, it also means I don't get paid for time missed either. I think something ought to be hashed out about that part. If you can't do anything about what people are wearing, at least give us who are affected our pay.....take it out of the offender's sick or PTO time. put THEM on corrective action for their behaviour, let them lose out on a bonus from missing too much time at work.
I'm just saying.............
I may be totally talking out my ear (or significantly lower *smirk*), but if the work situation happened in the US, I would think by virtue of the ADA (Amer. w/Disabilities Act) they'd have to provide a scent free work environment, accomodating the disability. Doesn't Canada have anything like that?
ReplyDeletei believe that there is something like that, if things don't soon shape up, i am going to have to look into that further. not wanting to be the centre of attention or anything (really), i just want to have a place to do my job, and do it well, without fewar of getting sick. we had a 30 minute meeting yesterday where we filled out employee surveys, and i bet you can guess what my topic area of concern was.... i'm playing it by ear....lots to do with ears here...lol.
ReplyDeleteThat seems pretty reasonable to me. Lotions, etc, all come in unscented varities. All people have to do is not wear perfume. Seems like it's a tough concept for some people around your office to grasp!
ReplyDeleteyes katie, it appears that they need to be hit in the head sometimes. sounding like a broken record doesn't get anything done either, it just pisses off management. while reading our work site message board, where we are supposed to be open and honest with concerns, and have them heard, and solutions worked on...well, lets just say, my request fell on deaf ears...or blind eyes , since they were reading.....
ReplyDeleteI wish I could think of something helpful to say.
ReplyDeletenot much to say i guess...just go with the flow. and keep complaining. one day, they will have someone much sicker than me on their hands, and that will be a sad day for everyone. i just hope it isn't me.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is they can do something about it. An employer has the right to adopt a "scent Free Environment Policy" at any time. We have one here where I work. It's totally legal so maybe push that on them.
ReplyDeleteSome people just don't get it. But you need to push for more. You can't just rely on them to take the initiative.
