back to work

and back to the grind. at least i hope so. being off with no pay since december 23rd has sucked royally. i mean, my job pays a little, but at least it pays some. when i began that job, i was told that it was part time, ok, i get that, but c'mon, no hours for what nearly 2 wks? there are those who are working, but they have been with the company longer than i have (who said seniority doesn't rule, eh?). oh did i mention i got a gift card from them, for tim hortons? yeah i got one, it has $5.00 on it. that is what three coffees? oh wait, tow of those special ones. can you say cheap? yes, yes i can. no bonuses, because i was told that it encourages cheating. really? you dangle money in front of me and i will work twice as hard for it. ok, so no bonuses, wait....the bonus is that for when you work so hard, and keep your stats up, when the shifts are low, you will still get hours.....yeah right! did i mention i have been off since december 23rd?

i have no choice but to work from home. it is that scent thing. people always have something on that triggers my illness. so i am confined to home. grand. not a lot of call centres around here offer WFH options. i am limited. hey, i am a good agent. i work hard for whatever company i am employed with. i learn the ropes and excel. period. that is what i do.

i have been still searching for other WFH opportunities. i have emailed lots of different companies all over the country, asking if they hire remotely. most of them say you have to work in their facility for 6months to a yr before they set you up at home. not an option for me. if i could work in a call centre, don'tcha  think i would still be at one? um, yeah. good money, mostly, medical benefits (god how i miss those), and a decent deposit in our bank account bi weekly (or twice a month depending on the co worked with). alas, i am reduced to this gig.

i even sent a message to one of my remote co workers, who has been steadily and consistently receiving hours over the holidays. yes i check the schedule each day, and no i was not on it.  she told me that it is what it is, and she takes her job very seriously, it is important market research. (i never said it wasn't), i just wanted to know how they decide who gets the hours. i have asked my team supervisor, and she said that if the stats are good, the hours will be there. except that they aren't.

last year was a year of change for me. accepting being alone in this world as an only child (even though there are biological relatives and adoptive relatives out there in the world). my family is that of k, m.r.j, and R. and a couple of close friends. oh and all the furry and finned ones, of course.   i did a house cleaning on facebook and my msn contact list again. and will also clean up my links on the side of this blog. and no one is clicking the donate to us button!  i have no reason to keep networked blogs or bloggUPP, or follow me here or there on anymore. going back to the old way of blogging. i will read a blog, and they will come back and read mine, leave a comment and follow that way. i have noticed not much has changed in readership, guess maybe i am boring. :) well it is just a personal blog, to type out my rants and stuff. and well, i used to feel a lot better writing when i was anonymous. funny how that goes, eh?  kinda hard to be anonymous when everyone i know online knows i use poet as my name. :)

we will be able to get the estate tidied up soon. need to make an appt with our accountant to get that done. she thought that everything would be back from revenue canada by march if we did things up 2nd wk jan, so that will be a big relief.  we have documentation of all the time we have spent taking care of estate issues, and paperwork is ready to roll with the accountant as far as i know.

we will also have a fair bit to do with our own taxes, since i am a remote agent, and k is an independent contractor. let's hope we don't get too screwed.

we had internet issues over the holidays. k could not get a large file off of the ftp site she uses so she could not work for three days. we were back and forth with our ISP, computer geeks, and it was just a big 'ole mess. anyway, now we have a new modem/router combo from our ISP, and so far everything has been ok. since we both work form home, we kinda need the internet working well all the time.

well that is enough ranting for now. it is bloody cold here now, winter in NB. Kane still wants to take me for 2 walks a day tho, can you say bundle up?

make today GREAT, you are the only one who can~ poet

  1. Your employers seem like total Jackasses...obviously your more loyal to them than they are to their employees, which is a hard trait to find in people in the workforce these days. Keep your chin up hun, they might not see your potential, but you do, and soon enough someone else will see that, and your opportunites will flood your inbox! :)

  4. Phew, Hi Poet! I am glad I managed to make it through to the final cut of your right-hand-side blog links! I wouldn't worry about your readership - mine hasn't moved significantly for a while either - but it doesn't mean that you don't write a good blog.

Good luck with finding new work my dear x

i like you annie, and my new rule is those who come by and comment here, i will link them and go comment there on their blog. easy-peasy. the old fashioned ways are coming back to me, and i think i like 'em better. (maybe getting old?0, no just got pissed off.

  6. Hi Poet! It was hard to read the writing on your blog. Altho' the colors are pretty, maybe if you make it white like the comments it may be easier? or not. My eyes are old!
I thought of you in the malls & stores around xmas, all the perfumes & holiday sents wafting around in the air as well as everyone wearing their perfume. I know you would have been miserable, but to me is was exhilerating. I'm so sorry you can't enjoy that. To be hospitalized from it all would have been hell for you!
There is going to be another snow storm here tomorrow. CRAP!!
