another birthday is approaching.
another cake that won't be bought.
another candle will go unlighted.
another hug that won't be given.
another kiss that won't be felt.
another card will go unwritten,
another gift that won't be opened.
another year has passed without you in it.
my heart hurts, my eyes puffy and red,
the salty tears i can taste as they run down my cheeks.
i think of birthdays passed of yours, how they managed to last a whole week ;)
i remember when you would come home from work, and sometimes, after supper you would sit at the Hammond and play; Please Release Me, Spanish Eyes, and so many other songs whose names escape me now; but when i hear the music of a Hammond in my mind
the lump in my throat grows larger;
the tightness in my chest, tighter,
and the salty tears spill off my cheeks and onto my pillow....
as i remember you.
as i miss you.
as i love you.
Your Daughter, Marta.

ReplyDeleteYesterday I was sitting in a grocery store parking lot waiting for my babe, & I saw an older distinguished man shoveling his sidewalk across the street. He was wearing a jaunty cap like my Father used to don.
Man, I really miss my Daddy.
His birthday was the day before mine, we always celebrated together.
Sorry for your sadness.
Happy for your good memories!
And the name Marta is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!
How blessed are we who were loved by wonderful fathers!
ReplyDeleteKMae & Mom thanks for comin over :)
ReplyDeleteI remember when Dad traded that blonde wood hammond for his 4 keyboard Virtuoso Lowrey. I had so wanetd to keep it, but alas, it stayed with the house, and the new owners i assume did away with it in some manner. i remember sitting beside dad playing with him. even took lessons for a while, but playing by ear it was really hard for me to get into the whole, read this music and let's do twinkle twinkle little star shall we?
