i quit. i stopped yesterday. no more. it is too hard on the cars. i have been trying to figure out how much money i am actually making, and it breaks down to way less than minimum wage. i cannot do that. at the end of the week, i have a pay cheque, by the time i take out how much i spent in gas, wear and tear and taxes.....well you get the idea. so now i am waiting to hear back from a couple of places i applied to. i really love driving. the only way to make money as a driver, is to use a company car and a gas card, and get a fixed wage. no other way. income tax time is going to be fun. i have done expense sheets before, so i just have to look through my old files and find them.
when i told M, the boss, he was unconcerned, no speeches about short notice or anything. he said, in fact, that a new driver was beginning monday, so it was all good. another sucker. hope he has a newer car, and lots of pocket money for gas. which is up over $1.oo/l again.
so did we ever get a shit-load of snow here this week. the driveway was down to one car width. yesterday afternoon, i worked on widening it and taking the snow back as far as i could. better to have room for the next dump of snow, right? hmph. i really will take some pictures and post them up on my picasa page for all to see. i think in total we must have received nearly 30 cm this storm. and i think since it has now turned so dreadfully cold, this stuff is gonna stay. hmph again.
not that i really want to, but going back into a call centre might be the best thing, at least for the winter. the money starts out low, but there is room for advancement, especially since it is just a new one in the area. ground floor. i hope to have day shifts soon. i told the lady in the interview yesterday that i had a keen interest in moving through the ranks, and perhaps securing a supervisory position. my leadership skills may need a bit of strengthening, but i can learn, and it would be much more of a challenge for me. at Abrand, i never had the chance to explore those opportunities; i stayed a phone jockey agent. i was a good agent and for the most part, happy with that. but there, it seemed that the more you tried, the further behind you got. with this new company, S said, they reward the front line agents, and help the ones who really want to advance. we shall see if the phone rings today with that news....."we'd like to offer you a position in the december 18th class to start your new career" . cross those fingers, ok?
i am thinking that i might apply to a few other centres in the area, just for shits and giggles. the pay in contact centres is much higher (for the area) than stocking shelves at wal*mart. perhaps i should think about upgrading my computer skills, and get my butt into an office. would that be boring? i don't think so. i am able to answer phones, transfer calls to various departments, i know my alphabet, so filing should be not that hard, and well, i can type. lots of practice with blogging and chat. time for exploration again. a change is as good as a rest, they say.
on that note, thanks for reading and take care, my faithfuls......poet.
